Senpai Jonathan is a great teacher! He really enjoys working with children and it shows in every lesson. My daughter looks forward to every lesson and I’ve seen great improvements in her listening and following directions as well as improvements in her self confidence.

I started taking Kempo as a way to stay in shape, have some fun and learn some self defense (hope to never Need it for that!) It's turned out to be all that and more! At the National Landing Dojo classes, I always get a good workout, learn new things and have a blast doing it! Jonathan is a great instructor and always keeps it fun! I highly recommend it!

I will never forget how I felt before I walked into this Dojo. I was frustrated with so many things school related when it came to my child. I remember going into the dojo and it didn’t matter that Sensai Jonathan was closed and cleaning the dojo. The door was open. He felt my energy, and sat and listened to my concerns. This was my first sign that support is all around me. He offered a free lesson to my child and then I had my whole family of 4 join. Sensai Jonathan has been a true blessing by being an amazing mentor and Sensai to my children. He listens to their crazy stories and never makes them feel weird for asking any questions. Also, he has a set demeanor and tone no matter how my son tries to push the sound boundaries. He shows them the importance of meditation, self control, discipline, and he encourages them when they do not feel like they can. All my children have the utmost respect for him, Kempo, and the Dojo. If you are in the National Landing area and looking for an extra layer of support, I highly recommend Potomac Kempo National Landing.

My experience with Potomac Kempo continues to exceed my expectations. I’ve been training at Potomac Kempo since 2018, and Jonathan has been my primary instructor the whole time. I entered into kempo thinking it would be a cool thing to learn. I didn’t consider the diverse friend network I’d gain by joining the dojo. All the great people I likely would’ve never met! It’s also really fun to continue learning new skills as an adult! Jonathan is also the primary instructor for my son. He’s great with my son, and truly strikes an appropriate balance between respect and friendship. Bottom line, I’d recommend PK National Landing to all families, big and small, looking to grow in an activity together!

I am a bit bias, but PK National Landing is an awesome place to train in Arlington. Jonathan is an excellent instructor and it is my honor to be the first person to leave a 5-star review. A big bonus is the free parking right next to the dojo in the adjacent parking deck.

Potomac Kempo - Many Paths Up the Mountain

Many Paths Up the Mountain

May 24, 2021 By Chris Santillo

There are many paths up the mountain. That is what we say when discussing other arts, all of the different ways people seek the benefits of Kempo training. All of these other arenas to which people go to challenge themselves to become healthier, happier, and better. But when standing at 13,500 and staring at the […]

Kempo Essay: Joe

Joe is a seventeen-year-old who has been training for more than two-thirds of his life. As he eludes to, he doesn’t remember a time when he was not a Potomac Kempo student. Recently, we had the honor to promote him to Second-Degree Black Belt, an honor that only a handful of others have achieved before […]
