Sensei Gary and his team do an amazing job! Potomac Kempo - Kingstowne's team of instructors are all committed, professional, kind, and knowledgeable. My son has been taking martial arts classes at this Dojo for over 6 years and he simply loves it there and looks forward to every class. It is apparent that he has developed a strong sense of belonging and is committed to continuous learning.Potomac Kempo provides much more than martial arts training. It provides structure and stability that can be so helpful toward personal growth. I have no doubt that these classes have helped tremendously with my son’s development, and I credit Potomac Kempo with helping him to develop a strong moral compass, greater self-discipline, strong conflict resolution skills, and a high degree of empathy and respect for others.I have no reservation in recommending Potomac Kempo.

My family has been with this dojo for over 10 years. My son started in the 3rd grade and is now 20. Whenever he comes home for a visit Kempo is always on his to do list. My daughter and a few of her friends took lessons there as well. Sensi Gary and team is great! They always treat us as part of the Kempo family and have a genuine interest in the well being of my kids. Did I mention my son is autistic and ADHD, it was a much needed skill for him to learn structure, meditation and a physical activity that held his interest!

We enjoy the Kingstowne branch of Potomac Kempo. Sensei Gary is very good with the kids. My son respects the class and has become more disciplined from the lessons. The facility is great for autistic children and has several locations. With our schedule, we routinely visit other PK locations to make sure we are able to attend classes. They have cultural nights and movie nights, which have become a kid centric favorite for my oldest.

We joined Potomac Kempo Kingstowne this past summer for our son. Sensei Gary and Mr. Kai have been amazing! They always make learning fun. Recently we have been virtual lesson due to social distancing and our son gets so excited when it’s time for Kempo! Just because we can’t be in the dojo doesn’t mean we still can’t learn! Thank you Potomac Kempo for bringing some normalcy to this crazy time.

My daughter and I are both taking the classes and lessons here at the Kingstowne location. It’s something we can do together or separate and we both enjoy it! My daughter even says, “It’s just like playing for awhile and you get to learn too!” I don’t like to work out but Kempo has changed that perspective. It’s a great way to learn the art and connect with yourself and meet your exercise goals. Best decision I made for my daughter and myself.

Have you ever wondered what if? Only to walk past and never take the opportunity to answer the question? 20 years ago I studied Shoalin Kempo Karate from a different branch in WI. We moved due to a career shift and I stopped my studies Recently we moved into this area and lo and behold I found this place and couldn't resist at least poking my head in. Glad we made the stop. This isn't a belt factory. The instructors are approachable and well adept. This is not simply a dojo but a true community of practitioners who look to improve everyday. Don't walk by this door without seeing it for yourself.

Excellent experience. Sensei Gary is knowledgeable and patient. He and the Dojo are always available for training even if it is outside the posted times. I was fortunate today to have a one on one private session with Sensei Gary and it was very productive. I learn something new each session from Sensei Gary, staff and my fellow students. There are five Dojo's so you can train in any and learn from different Instructors which is great. Everyone is friendly like a big family. If you are considering Martial Arts for yourself or family, I highly recommend you have a chat with Sensei Gary at the Kingstowne Dojo.

We are a homeschool family that attends the Thursday homeschool Kempo class at the Kingstowne dojo. We are grateful that PK-Kingstowne started a homeschool class. Our three girls are really enjoying the classes and are making great friends with other homeschool children. The classes are structured but also include lots of fun/team like activities as well as thoughtful "homework" activities that my girls look forward too!I can't recommend PK-Kingstowne enough, it's an all around great program and worth every penny!

I went to few dojos before I came here over two years ago. I must say that I was sold on the fact of the spirit of Sensei Gary and other students. Great atmosphere where everyone helps each other to become not only a skilled martial artist but also build true interpersonal skills too. Love the Potomac Kempo family throughout all four locations. Great place for kids and adults.

Potomac kempo was recommended by the mother of a friend of my daughter, as a place where children learn karate and also where kids are also being prepared to be resilient and determined in life. The staff are welcoming and friendly , they get to know each child , their strength and also areas that can be developed .The environment is of courtesy and respect and my daughter really enjoy the one by one class time. She is learning how to defend and stand up for herself and also how to recognize authority figures in her life .Of course , all the principle talk are done while karate practice is in progress , so the mix is very motivational .It was priceless to see my daughter enjoying meditation practice and coming to me saying that I need to brief more often .I took notes on that .

Upon Moving to VA a goal of ours was to make sure our son got an excellent start in Martial Arts. Went on the hunt for a school that we believed would provide the right foundation for our son, one where the dojo was welcoming and harmonious.we literally looked at 5 different dojos before checking out Potomac Kempo, and from the moment we walked in, we knew. This is where our son needed to be, he absolutely loves going to training. The Sensei and instructors are professional and always willing to answer questions. If you are looking for a place for your child and or for yourself to improve, grow stronger, be more focused and achieve goals. Potomac Kempo is the Dojo for you.

I recently joined at this martial arts academy and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and supportive, and they create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that makes me feel at home. Sensei Gary really cares about helping his students reach their full potential, both in martial arts and in life. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the classes are structured in a way that allows me to learn and progress at my own pace. I have noticed significant improvements in my strength, flexibility, and overall fitness since I started training here, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a positive and empowering community. I highly recommend this academy to anyone who is looking to learn martial arts and improve their physical and mental well-being.

My 4 now 5 year old was showing interest in martial arts. After researching different options in the area and speaking to Sensei Gary, I decided on this dojo. My son is thriving, growing, and learning with each class. He looks forward to working with Joshua and Sensei Gary. After only a few months I see a difference in his discipline and focus.
