Our Teaching Philosophy

Potomac Kempo is proud of our personable, patient, and flexible instructors. We are a collective of people who find joy in learning, maintain a desire to grow, and encourage those same qualities in our students. We are committed to bringing out the best in our students while continuing to listen and learn ourselves. We emphasize growth of the whole student, respect for oneself and others, and fostering good citizenship through service and integrity.

Our Volunteer Instructors Corps

As students grow in their own training, they are encouraged to begin teaching others. Every instructor brings their own skillset and experience. Some instructors bring martial arts training from other disciplines or the military; others bring a background in education or business.

Our Headmaster

Shihan Chris Santillo founded Potomac Kempo in 2003. He is now based out of Ireland, where he can be reached at Integrity Martial Arts.

Testimonials

I have come to learn that there is no flawless execution of a form; every block, strike or movement can in some way be improved. There is no perfection in Shaolin Kempo only the pursuit of perfection. To me this is sublime. To me this is what makes Kempo an art form; a continuous creation and expression of my effort to achieve what will never be achieved.

Potomac Kempo - Leopard Character

About Kempo: Shaolin Leopard

August 1, 2014 By Chris Santillo

The Shaolin Leopard Of the five Shaolin Animals, the Leopard is the only one crafted solely for martial purposes. That is to say, the other four Shaolin Animals had significant places in Chinese culture and mythology long before they were called on to be ‘martial’ animals. The Leopard, by contrast, has no cultural or mythological […]

Kempo Essay: Ally

Kempo Quest Well, it’s been quite a year!  I really did not think I would stick with Kempo when I started a year ago, it seemed like such a whim and not something at which I would enjoy or could sustain, but here we are, Sensei Cassie, Sempei Erica, and I celebrating a year together […]
